#Sports Talk-#March Madness by guest author Allan Freidson

w-march madness 2016

Oh, the Madness. No, not the bad kind of madness that may have serious consequences. Rather we are talking about March Madness where for years college basketball teams have gathered together at various locations in furtherance of anointing one of them the national champion.

Appropriately women use the same process as the men to determine a winner, but for them it merely becomes who will be the annual sacrifice for the ladies from the University of Connecticut because those ladies not only win every year but do it by about a 40 point margin.

No, this is about the college boys and the 68 teams that play for our entertainment. Right now 68 has been reduced to 16 teams and play will resume Thursday, 3/24 and, as usual, it sure has been fun watching them get to what is called the Sweet Sixteen.

It wasn’t always called March Madness, and there weren’t always 68 teams participating. However, over the years there were so many games that came down to the final play that even if one didn’t have interest in a particular team it was still so much fun to watch the games unfold.

One of the last games of the recently concluded first week of play sure proved that point. Northern Iowa led Texas A&M by 12 points with less than a minute to play but managed to forget how to throw the ball inbounds in the last 40 seconds of regulation and got outscored 14-2 on the way to a double overtime loss.

You can’t make this stuff up. Wisconsin vs Xavier another one. I tell you it is Madness. Whoops, gotta go, St. Joe’s and Oregon are finishing off the night in another wild one. Can’t wait for more of the same today!

Mastering my Business in Pebble Beach

"The Business of You"
“The Business of You”

Yesterday in Pebble Beach, I joined a group of fantastic women representing a wide range of professions for a great seminar.

As a realtor with 29 years of real estate sales experience I never stop learning – in fact I was recently nicknamed the Education Advocate of my Alain Pinel Realtors-Carmel office. (I wonder why?) Well, here I go again, spreading the word about another great educational opportunity.

The seminar was called, “Mastering the Business of You” and was presented by two amazing women, Marion Gellatly and Mary Jeanne Vincent.  Marion, a style and image expert, discussed the power of our brand, how we determine what our “brand” is, and how we are communicating visually with our clients. Mary Jeanne, a career coach and expert on Linkedin, taught us Negotiation skills and how to use LinkedIn to put our best online image forward. This was the first time they had teamed up to do a class together and it was a winner!

I highly recommend this seminar for any professional person who wants to update and upgrade their image online and person to person.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

happy st patrick's day

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

landscape

May you always have…
enough luck to make you smile,
enough trials to keep you strong,
enough of all life’s treasures
to keep you truly happy.

pot of gold

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
