Chris Botti will play to a SOLD OUT crowd at the Sunset Center Sunday evening.  Every year I have missed seeing him, but last time I swore that the next time he came back – I would be there!  So this time I bought tickets as soon as the announcement was made that he was coming.

So I will be there this weekend, head cold and all, but I wouldn’t miss it for anything.  Chris has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist and puts on a fabulous show.  He has four #1 jazz albums along with multiple Gold, Platinum, and Grammy awards.   My husband said, “You mean he’s just going to play the trumpet all night? ” I told him – “just you wait!”

We are so lucky to have such a fabulous venue like the Sunset Center here in Carmel.  Wonderful entertainment is brought here practically at our door step without having to travel to San Jose or San Francisco – although I love our trips into the City to see shows.

Hope to see many of you there Sunday night – but if not – next time rush to buy tickets as soon as he is announced – he’s a sell out every time he comes.

“Meet Our Elected Officials”

The Women’s Council of Realtors Monterey Peninsula kicked off it’s first meeting of 2017 with an exciting panel of elected officials including a mayor, council members, and a Monterey County Supervisor.  The well attended meeting took place at the Corral de Tierra Country Club and was chaired by Carol Duncan, the WCR Monterey Peninsula 2017 President.  Scott Dick, the MCAR Government Affairs Chair led the panel discussion.

The panel included left to right, Cynthia Garfield, Pacific Grove Council member; Mayor Steve Dallas of Carmel; Nick Smith, Pacific Grove Council member; Luis Alejo, Monterey County Supervisor; and Dan Albert, Monterey Council member (standing).  Each panelist gave a short talk on the concerns they were dealing with in their cities which was followed by a lively question and answer session. All panelists encouraged everyone to get involved in their communities and spoke how critical it was that realtors be engaged and involved in our cities.

The Women’s Council of Realtors is a national organization with the following mission statement:

“We are a network of successful REALTORS®, advancing women
as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and the communities we serve.”

WCR was founded in 1938 and has grown to 12,500 members with 252 local networks all over the country.  It was my honor to be the Charter President of our Monterey Peninsula network which began in October 2001.  Since then we have had many great realtor leaders who have grown the organization into an amazing network that brings education, leadership skills and camaraderie to its members.

We also hold fundraisers and donate to local charities.  Many of our presidents have gone on to serve as presidents of the Monterey County Association of Realtors and hold state and national positions.  If you are a local realtor and are not currently a member,  I can only ask, “Why not”.

Havana Nights

SAVE THE DATE  WCR Monterey Peninsula will hold its annual fundraiser September 13, 2017.  It will be one of our famous fashion shows with the theme of Havana Nights and will be a luncheon at Inn at Spanish Bay.  There are opportunities to be a sponsor or to donate a Silent Auction Item. (Sorry this poster is a bit crinkled but I hope you can get the idea).  It is going to be a HOT fashion show so don’t miss out!

My favorite bird by a long shot is the blue bird.  They visit me often in my yard pecking bugs from the garden or hopping into the bird bath for a quick rinse.  When my mother was alive, she loved the blue birds and at the end when she could barely speak she pointed at them from her bed which overlooked the garden to let me know that she knew they were there and saying hello.  Now whenever I see a blue bird I am convinced Mother sent them from heaven as a harbinger of hope and  to say a quick hello to her daughter.

One person’s theory on the meaning of the poem.  “Emily Dickinson describes hope as a bird with feathers that perches in the soul.  Where it sings without words or pause.  The song of hope sounds even in the Gale and in the coldest places.  She says that she hears the bird of hope “in the chillest land” and “on the strangest Sea” but it never leaves her alone and it never asks for a crumb of her, even in the worst conditions,”

So next time you see a little bird saying hello, think of it as a harbinger of hope reminding you of the constant singing in your soul.
