June is a time of graduations, weddings, and heading out on vacation with the family. What’s in your plans this summer? Please let me know in the comments. I LOVE hearing from you.
June has always felt like one of the most beautiful times of year on the Monterey Peninsula. The hills are still green, wildflowers dot our coastal trails, and the longer days invite us to spend more time outdoors enjoying everything that makes this community so special.

Whether it’s an early morning walk along the Rec Trail or Carmel Beach, discovering a new local restaurant, or gathering with long time friends, I’m continually reminded how fortunate we are to call this extraordinary place home.

On a personal note June is Birthday time for my husband, Allan, and this year we celebrated in style at Grasing’s with our long time friends, Bob and Lou Borden down from San Francisco. Happy Birthday, my sweet Allan!
What’s wonderful about our summer on the Monterey Peninsula is the weather. When most of America is steaming with high temperatures and humidity, we stay comfortable with our cool ocean breezes and and if hot weather arrives for a day or two we know the coastal fog will move in and cool our homes down. No air conditioning needed here!

We have an active outdoor lifestyle here. Whether you choose to live in or visit any of our towns – there is something for everyone to enjoy. Hiking at Point Lobos and viewing the abundant wild life, golf in Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove, Kayaking on Monterey Bay watching the sea otters drift through the kelp. or walking your dog on Carmel Beach – maybe even taking in the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

It’s also a wonderful season for gathering with family and friends, discovering a new favorite restaurant, and simply slowing down long enough to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us every day.

One of our favorite summer restaurants is Schooner’s at Monterey Plaza Hotel. We love sitting out on the deck enjoying an early dinner looking out on the Bay. I always feel like I’m on vacation in some lovely seaside resort – and you know what – I am! And I’m 5 minutes from home.
Every time I’m at the Monterey Bay Aquarium or walking along the shoreline, I’m reminded that living here means sharing our coastline with sea otters, harbor seals, whales, and countless other marine creatures. It’s one of the many things that makes life on the Monterey Peninsula unlike anywhere else. I get a kick out of visitors going crazy, because they view a seal lounging on the beach. Just an everyday occurrence for us – but I don’t ever want to take it for granted. It’s too special.
Monterey Bay is one of the best places in the country to view whales and summer is a great time to go whale watching. All kinds of whales are being sighted out on the Bay in recent weeks. I highly recommend Monterey Bay Whale Watching on Fisherman’s Wharf. Recently I interviewed Nancy Black on her catamaran “The Blackfin”. Nancy is not only the owner of the Monterey Bay Whale Watch, but is also a marine biologist and researcher of Killer Whales. Take a listen . . . and you might see some whales!
