Carmel

Carmel-by-the-Sea is a charming seaside town with gorgeous white sand beaches, storybook homes, and a quaint downtown filled with fine restaurants, shops, and art galleries. The oldest structure is the Carmel Mission founded by Franciscan Junipero Serra in the 1770’s, but as a village it was founded in 1902 and incorporated in 1916 and is only one mile by one mile in size. The town was laid out in small parcels of 40 X 100 ft and small cottages dotted the landscape. In the early 1900’s a colony of bohemians and artists were attracted to the amazing beauty of the area and still today, Carmel remains a magnate for artists and writers. It has been named the third most romantic city in the world by Travel and Leisure (behind only Paris and Venice) and is indeed a popular spot to become engaged or married. Residents and visitors alike think Carmel is one of our unique treasures.
