This legendary vessel carried author John Steinbeck and marine biologist Ed Ricketts on their famous 1940 expedition to the Sea of Cortez, a journey that inspired two remarkable books, “Sea of Cortez” and “The Log from the Sea of Cortez”. I had the pleasure of interviewing Sherry Flumerfelt, Executive Director of the Western Flyer Foundation, to learn about the boat’s incredible history, restoration, and new mission.
