WOMEN’S COUNCIL OF REALTORS ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

To put on a major event of this kind is an enormous task with many volunteers putting in an extraordinary amount of time, so first I must  thank and applaud all the wonderful women and men who have worked so hard to make this a successful event.  Everyone had their particular “job” and pitched in “wherever” whenever necessary.  My job was to co-chair the models – along with Karen Calley –  which included rounding up a group of models from our membership, giving direction about the fashion show, sending them on to the stores for fittings, and replacing & switching when models dropped out or there was a need to switch a store.  In all we have a fabulous group of models this year!  Can’t wait to see them walk down the runway and I will be up there with them!

This year I am modeling for Sylvie Unique Boutique and you can see from the quick video she had taken above, Julie and Sylvia and I had a fun time trying on our wardrobe for the fashions show.

I arrived as soon as she opened last Wednesday.  Hmmm . . . so many to choose from.

This is a lovely look!

And so is this!!  Sylvie has a beautiful collection of European designers that is to die for!

Sylvie of Sylvie Unique Boutique

For the fashion show, Sylvie has some specific designs she wanted to show so I started to try them on.

Will these earrings work?  Just wait until you see me in full make-up and boots in this outfit!

Stores in the Fashion Show

Other than Sylvie Unique Boutique, this year’s fashion show features the following stores: Ms. Fabulous, Carried Away, Biba, Foxy Couture Carmel, Debra C, Nest Boutique, ericka engelman couture, Ruffle Me To Sleep, and featuring men’s wear, Khaki’s and Men’s Wearhouse.  We thank all of the stores and encourage everyone to check out these marvelous stores if you are not familiar with them.

Time is of the essence as we say in real estate and it’s “crunch time” now for this event.  If you don’t have your ticket yet,

Rehearsal Tuesday evening and we’ll be there Wednesday at O’Dark 30 to start rehearsing one more time, before you all see it.  Can’t wait!!

My Secret Life as a Model

Susan Clark modeling Ericka Engelman in the 2015 WCR Fashion Show

I’ve mostly spent my life as a Stewardess (Pam Am), as a teacher (SFUSD), and as a realtor both in  San Francisco and Carmel (Alain Pinel Realtors).  BUT,  I always had this secret desire to model so when I was in my 20’s I gave it a whirl.  I went to a modeling school in San Francisco and some how wound up teaching “Walks and Turns” at the same modeling school on Saturdays – all while teaching 5th grade.  It was my secret life!  I did do some live fashion shows, but alas, it was obvious this could not be a part-time gig.  And I was certainly not emaciated enough to do print and liked a steady job – plus I loved teaching.  I decided it was not my calling, but it had been fun!  To this day, I love fashion!  Some days you can’t tell by the way I dress, but issues of  Vogue, Elle, and Bazaar are always stacked up on my coffee table.

Did any of you reading this catch the Oscar de la Renta exhibition at De Young in San Francisco?  Now that man knew how to make a dress!

Let’s Engage in Our Communities ~ Carmel, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Monterey, Salinas

Luis Alejo, Monterey County Supervisor

“Meet Our Elected Officials”

The Women’s Council of Realtors Monterey Peninsula kicked off it’s first meeting of 2017 with an exciting panel of elected officials including a mayor, council members, and a Monterey County Supervisor.  The well attended meeting took place at the Corral de Tierra Country Club and was chaired by Carol Duncan, the WCR Monterey Peninsula 2017 President.  Scott Dick, the MCAR Government Affairs Chair led the panel discussion.

The panel included left to right, Cynthia Garfield, Pacific Grove Council member; Mayor Steve Dallas of Carmel; Nick Smith, Pacific Grove Council member; Luis Alejo, Monterey County Supervisor; and Dan Albert, Monterey Council member (standing).  Each panelist gave a short talk on the concerns they were dealing with in their cities which was followed by a lively question and answer session. All panelists encouraged everyone to get involved in their communities and spoke how critical it was that realtors be engaged and involved in our cities.

The Women’s Council of Realtors is a national organization with the following mission statement:

“We are a network of successful REALTORS®, advancing women
as professionals and leaders in business, the industry and the communities we serve.”

WCR was founded in 1938 and has grown to 12,500 members with 252 local networks all over the country.  It was my honor to be the Charter President of our Monterey Peninsula network which began in October 2001.  Since then we have had many great realtor leaders who have grown the organization into an amazing network that brings education, leadership skills and camaraderie to its members.

Camaraderie is big part of WCR Pictured from left to right Lori Jabukowski, Molly McGee, Michele Henderson, and Susan Clark. All but Michele are past presidents of WCR Monterey Peninsula

We also hold fundraisers and donate to local charities.  Many of our presidents have gone on to serve as presidents of the Monterey County Association of Realtors and hold state and national positions.  If you are a local realtor and are not currently a member,  I can only ask, “Why not”.

Havana Nights

SAVE THE DATE  WCR Monterey Peninsula will hold its annual fundraiser September 13, 2017.  It will be one of our famous fashion shows with the theme of Havana Nights and will be a luncheon at Inn at Spanish Bay.  There are opportunities to be a sponsor or to donate a Silent Auction Item. (Sorry this poster is a bit crinkled but I hope you can get the idea).  It is going to be a HOT fashion show so don’t miss out!

For more information about WCR or the fashion show give me a call or email me at sclark@apr.com.

Another Successful WCR Fashion Show/Fundraiser in Pebble Beach

“Escape into the forest”

An amazing crowd gathered at the Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach September 18th to enjoy a Fashion Show Fundraiser “Escape into the forest” sponsored by the Women’s Council of Realtors, Monterey Peninsula.   A participant’s ticket included a champagne reception, a  fantastic lunch, a wide array of silent and live auction items to choose from and an incredible fashion show.  The fundraiser benefited the Housing Resource Center and the WCR Education Fund.  WCR is known for putting on the best fashion show on the Monterey Peninsula and they did not disappoint anyone modeling clothes from Ms. Fabulous, Biba, The Boutique, Nest, Heart Beat Boutique, Carried Away, Coast Carmel, Ericka Engelman Couture, Men’s Wearhouse, and Patrick James.  The models are not professional models ~ they come from the real estate industry and are your favorite realtors, Title Company representatives, Lenders, etc.   But, for this one day, they are runway models on a catwalk!

Backstage at the fashion show

I get asked, “What is it like being backstage at the fashion show getting ready?”  Well . . .  crazy, amazing, and fun!  Brian and his team from Oye Hair Salon in Monterey worked on our hair, Blush, a makeup studio in Monterey applied makeup and the models all prepared their clothes  by unzipping zippers and unbuttoning buttons to make those fast changes possible — that is when we weren’t posing for photos!

On a personal note I loved modeling Ericka Engelman Couture.  She is an incredible designer and creates very unique designs.  She does  a thriving bridal business, but is now venturing into a ready to wear line.  For a fascinating wardrobe, give Ericka a call.

To put on a successful event of this scale is a large undertaking.  We want to thank all of our wonderful sponsors, silent/live auction donors, our clothiers, our hair and makeup salons, our models, our dressers, our tuxedo clad greeters,  and our Fashion Show Committee led by the two co-chairs,  Sandra Schirmer and Carol Duncan.  It is a thrill to raise money for a good cause and at the same time provide a fantastic venue for many to enjoy!
