It’s a New Dawn, a New Day, and a new 2021!

Annual Report ~ 2020 Real Estate on the Monterey Peninsula

As realtors we always look back at the end of the year in preparation for going forward.  As I am sure none of you need to be reminded, 2020 was  unprecedented.  With a global COVID pandemic raging, along with social and political unrest, the country had its “hands full”.  Locally here in March stay-at-home orders were mandated and real estate came to a screeching halt for the next couple of months.  As realtors we adapted to the “No Showings” order by using additional video, virtual tours, Matterport 3- D tours and extensive Social Media. Out of necessity we found additional means to showcase our sellers’ properties.

When the order was lifted for essential services in May, showings by appointment only were allowed with buyers wearing booties, masks, and rubber gloves.  We did everything possible to keep everyone safe.  The pent up demand took off and the local real estate market experienced a major surge in business.  All 9 markets my company tracks had a significant increase in demand with multiple offers becoming the norm when properties would come on the market.  Our annual report is attached. The statistics and commentary tell this story – each market a little different, but all showing significant increases. I encourage you to take a look.

What’s in store now is everyone’s question. In my view, it’s a new dawn, a new day, and a new 2021! I’m very optimistic.  Yes, January has begun slower than we’d like and there is still a stay-at-home order in place, but interest rates are still low and the country is making strides on getting people vaccinated for Covid.  The new Administration is making this a top priority and there is an additional stimulus bill on the horizon.  The silver lining of the pandemic may be that many of our buyers have found they can live on the Monterey Peninsula and work remotely increasing the number of full time families in our community.

If you seek to explore new changes in your life real estate-wise, I’m here to assist in any way I can. Call me to talk or just say hello.  I love hearing from my clients and friends.

1222 Shafter, Pacific Grove

The charming seaside town of Pacific Grove is attracting many new residents, second home owners, and visitors for many reasons. Boasting the most beautiful coastline on the Monterey Peninsula, its natural beauty has no equal.

Spring time in Pacific Grove showcases the “Pink Carpet”!

America’s Last Home Town as it is sometimes called, also has a “down home” community feel where you know your neighbors and shopkeepers by name and you are greeted when you arrive at your favorite restaurant.

Enjoying a nice breakfast at Victorian Corner.

For those who love the ocean, the marine life is amazing.  Right off the coastline of Pacific Grove is a section of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the largest marine sanctuary in the US.

Recreation Trail follows the coastline. Outside enthusiasts enjoy biking, walking, skating, and riding the surreys.

From the Recreation Trail which runs along the coast, you can spot whales as they migrate, Harbor seals as they give birth in the spring,

Harbor seals with their newborn pups.

and a multitude of seabirds, fishes, and invertebrates, if you like to observe the tide pools. Just don’t remove any animals – it is a sanctuary! The Monterey Bay Aquarium features an underwater view of the Bay which attracts visitors from all over the world and inspires the conservation of our oceans.

Since it is such an idyllic place, real estate values have skyrocketed in the last 10 years.  Never quite as well known as its neighboring towns like Carmel and Monterey, Pacific Grove always kept a slightly lower profile. No more.  As soon as a home is listed for sale, it is purchased by an eager buyer wanting to be a part of this dream place.
