It’s a New Dawn, a New Day, and a new 2021!

Annual Report ~ 2020 Real Estate on the Monterey Peninsula

As realtors we always look back at the end of the year in preparation for going forward.  As I am sure none of you need to be reminded, 2020 was  unprecedented.  With a global COVID pandemic raging, along with social and political unrest, the country had its “hands full”.  Locally here in March stay-at-home orders were mandated and real estate came to a screeching halt for the next couple of months.  As realtors we adapted to the “No Showings” order by using additional video, virtual tours, Matterport 3- D tours and extensive Social Media. Out of necessity we found additional means to showcase our sellers’ properties.

When the order was lifted for essential services in May, showings by appointment only were allowed with buyers wearing booties, masks, and rubber gloves.  We did everything possible to keep everyone safe.  The pent up demand took off and the local real estate market experienced a major surge in business.  All 9 markets my company tracks had a significant increase in demand with multiple offers becoming the norm when properties would come on the market.  Our annual report is attached. The statistics and commentary tell this story – each market a little different, but all showing significant increases. I encourage you to take a look.

What’s in store now is everyone’s question. In my view, it’s a new dawn, a new day, and a new 2021! I’m very optimistic.  Yes, January has begun slower than we’d like and there is still a stay-at-home order in place, but interest rates are still low and the country is making strides on getting people vaccinated for Covid.  The new Administration is making this a top priority and there is an additional stimulus bill on the horizon.  The silver lining of the pandemic may be that many of our buyers have found they can live on the Monterey Peninsula and work remotely increasing the number of full time families in our community.

If you seek to explore new changes in your life real estate-wise, I’m here to assist in any way I can. Call me to talk or just say hello.  I love hearing from my clients and friends.

Real Estate on the Monterey Peninsula ~ What now?

Dear Clients, Friends, and Associates,

This past month has been very challenging for all of us.  We have all been impacted in different ways, however, for none of us has it been life as usual.  I know some of you have been unable to see elderly loved ones, and many of you have become “teachers” to your young children.  Some of you have been able to work from home and others have been furloughed or have had your small business forced into closing.  My whole-hearted thanks go out to all of our essential businesses that have been keeping us safe, healthy, and fed.

Thank you to all of the police officers, doctors and nurses and other health care workers, our grocery stores, and our restaurants serving take-out orders.  During a Shelter-in-place order we quickly find out how many people we depend on daily to take care of our basic needs.  Thank you all, for being there for us!

So how has the “shut down” affected Real Estate on the Monterey Peninsula I keep being asked?  To begin with we had a very strong first quarter and the Q-1 statistics are attached.  Most of the sales that were in escrow when the SIP order took place did proceed to close.

But what now?  Yes, that is the $64,000 question.  At this time, no one wants to forecast an exact answer to this question, because there are still so many variables.  There are a number of key drivers at play –  both positive and negative.  At Carmel Realty Company we are working to accentuate the Positive with new sales tools and new channels of messaging to reach our prospective buyers and sellers.

Adwerx, a digital advertising campaign, is just one of the ways we reach out to prospective clients

As a Realtor with 33 years experience in both San Francisco and on the Monterey Peninsula, I have seen our real estate market survive many crises.  I remember the AIDS epidemic in the late 80’s and early 90’s, the Stock Market crash of 1987, the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989, the dot com boom and then crash in 2001, the crazy upwards rush of prices ending in a crash in 2007 and the housing collapse in 2008 with foreclosures and short sales becoming common place.  What I have learned is that “this too will pass”.

What I know for sure is that we live in one of the most desirable communities in the world with a limited inventory of homes.  We’ll get through this crisis like we survived the others.  In time our community will return to become healthy and vibrant with appreciating real estate values and an extraordinary quality of life.

Memories of “Car Week”  in Pebble Beach

At Carmel Realty Company we take treating our clients well very seriously.  When I first speak with a client, I always tell them to consider me your realtor for life.  I take relationships seriously as does the company I work for.  Enter “Car Week” !  Always a delight for all and a chance to meet new friends and clients who want to learn more about our fabulous Monterey Peninsula.

This year Carmel Realty Company hosted  two fabulous parties at oceanfront properties where guests could experience how amazing the lifestyle can be in this idyllic community.

Guests entering the party at Villa Eden del Mar on 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach Thursday evening

Our Thursday night party during “Car Week” was held at Villa Eden del Mar on 17 Mile Drive, one of our amazing properties for sale.  It was described in 1925 as “A Spanish Palace by the Sea” and has long been considered one of the most renowned homes on the Monterey Coast.  Guests enjoyed Quintessa wine and delicious light bites from Grasing’s, one of Carmel’s finest restaurants.

Guests mingle on the delightful patio drinking wine from Quintessa Estates and delicious bites from Grasing’s restaurant.

How spectacular this was to be able to invite my guests to such a fabulous party!

Although the home was open for all to tour, guests seemed to linger on the back patio where the view of the Pacific Ocean was “to die for”.  The weather was warm ~ everything was just about perfect.

Debbie and Walter from Shreveport. LA

Debbie and Walter, clients from Shreveport, LA,  loved the party and the Pebble Beach lifestyle!  They are looking forward to when they can move here.  I think our party at this breath-taking location convinced anyone who was considering a move or having a second home here to take the steps!

No one had to convince me that night!  I love the Monterey Peninsula lifestyle and still have to pinch myself – after living here 20 years – that I am just where I want to be – and it’s perfect!

Debbie and Walter checking out the Rolls.

Since parking was limited, Carmel Realty had arranged with Rolls Royce to have their amazing cars available  to shuttle guests to their cars parked at another listing close by.  Walter being a car buff loved checking out the Rolls. Thank you Rolls Royce!

I kind of liked checking out the fantastic cars, also.                                     But I do prefer the convertible!

Thinking about having a place here?  Call me and let’s chat.  We have homes in all price ranges and I would love to help you  find your dream home or getaway –  just perfect for you!
