Pebble Beach Golf Links over looking Carmel Beach during the AT&T Pro Am Golf Tournament

The AT&T Pro-Am Golf Tournament in Pebble Beach has always been more than a golf tournament. It’s part of our story.

What began as the legendary “Crosby Clambake,” hosted by Bing Crosby, was once a charming mix of world-class golf and Hollywood fun. Celebrities teed it up alongside the pros. Spectators could wander the fairways and catch a glimpse of their favorite actors, athletes, and entertainers trying their best to “make the cut.” And who could forget the unforgettable antics of Bill Murray? Those were joyful, unscripted days.

But like so much in life — and in golf — the tournament has evolved.

Today, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is a PGA Signature Event with a staggering $20 million purse, and $3.6 million awarded to the winner. The format is more serious. The field is elite. The competition? Intense.

Not better. Not worse. Just different.

The PGA Tour has responded to shifting dynamics in professional golf, and Pebble Beach has stepped confidently into this new chapter. The celebrities may be fewer, the antics quieter — but the level of play is extraordinary. We are witnessing some of the finest golfers in the world compete on one of the most breathtaking courses ever designed.

And here’s what hasn’t changed — what truly matters.

Our community.

Year after year, this tournament continues to support our local charities, with millions directed back into Monterey County nonprofits. That ripple effect is something we can all celebrate. Whether the skies are sunny or wrapped in fog, the generosity remains constant.

Whether you’re walking the fairways along the cliffs of Pebble Beach Golf Links, bundled up against the coastal breeze, or enjoying the tournament from the comfort of your cozy couch, there is still something magical about this week.

Because here on the Monterey Peninsula, golf isn’t just a sport. It’s tradition. It’s lifestyle. It’s legacy.

And even in “Crosby weather,” Pebble Beach always shines.

Living The Pebble Beach Lifestyle: Coastal, Curated, Timeless

Luxury Living in Pebble Beach: A Lifestyle Like No Other

There are luxury destinations—and then there is Pebble Beach. Perched along California’s dramatic central coast, Pebble Beach has long been synonymous with timeless elegance, natural beauty, and an unmatched coastal lifestyle. For discerning buyers around the world, owning a luxury home here is not just a real estate decision—it’s a lifestyle investment.

Why Buyers Are Drawn to Luxury Homes in Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach offers something increasingly rare: privacy, prestige, and protected beauty. With strict land-use guidelines and limited inventory, luxury homes here retain an enduring exclusivity. Buyers are drawn to the sense of permanence—knowing that the views, the forests, and the coastline are preserved for generations to come.

Architecturally, Pebble Beach is a showcase of excellence. From iconic mid-century designs to refined contemporary estates and classic coastal retreats, homes are thoughtfully designed to complement the land rather than compete with it. Many properties offer sweeping ocean vistas, fairway views, or forested serenity—often all within the same neighborhood.

Add to that the cachet of the Pebble Beach name, and it’s easy to understand why this community continues to attract CEOs, creatives, athletes, and legacy families alike.

How Residents Spend Their Time

Life in Pebble Beach is about quality over quantity—experiences that feel both elevated and effortless.

Many residents start their mornings with coastal walks along the legendary 17-Mile Drive, taking in the crashing waves, cypress trees, and sea air. Golf enthusiasts enjoy access to some of the most celebrated courses in the world, while others prefer tennis, hiking, or cycling through the forested trails. And don’t forget the love of classic cars that are celebrated in August at the Concours de Elegance.

Entertaining is an art form here. Evenings often revolve around intimate dinner parties, wine tastings, or sunset gatherings overlooking the Pacific. World-class dining, boutique shopping, and cultural events in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey are just minutes away, offering the perfect balance of seclusion and sophistication.

And for those who travel frequently, Pebble Beach serves as a peaceful home base—a place to truly exhale between adventures.

What Makes Pebble Beach Truly Unique

Pebble Beach is not a city—it’s a community with a soul. Unlike other luxury enclaves, it has resisted overdevelopment, preserving its natural character and understated elegance. There are no traffic lights, no commercial sprawl—just winding roads, towering pines, and breathtaking ocean views around every turn.

Its global reputation is paired with a deeply local feel. Neighbors know one another, traditions are honored, and philanthropy plays a meaningful role in community life. Events like iconic golf tournaments and charitable gatherings bring residents together while quietly reinforcing Pebble Beach’s place on the world stage.

Perhaps most importantly, Pebble Beach offers something money alone cannot buy: a sense of peace. The sound of the ocean, the filtered light through the trees, the feeling of being connected to nature—all while enjoying the highest standard of living.

A Legacy Worth Owning

Purchasing a luxury home in Pebble Beach is about more than square footage or finishes. It’s about securing a legacy in one of the most beautiful and respected coastal communities in the world. Whether as a primary residence, a refined retreat, or a generational investment, Pebble Beach continues to stand apart—timeless, tranquil, and truly extraordinary.

If luxury is defined by rarity, beauty, and lifestyle, then Pebble Beach is luxury at its finest.

AT&T Pro Am Golf Tournament ~ Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach

The Monterey Peninsula is a “Golf Mecca”.  We have golf course after golf course – with a perfect golf course to suit every player’s need.  And we attract PGA tours – after all who wouldn’t want to come to Pebble Beach which looks glorious to the TV viewer from every camera angle.   Every February we enjoy the AT&T Pro Am Golf Tournament, however, this year is a double whammy ~  the US Open Golf Tournament has come to Pebble Beach for the third time in 19 years.

Tiger Woods, photographer unknown

This year something special is causing excitement and anticipation and there is only one word for it – Tiger.  Yes he’s back and after winning the Masters this year, his fans are hoping he can win here again this weekend.  Tiger has struggled with personal issues and serious injuries over the years and some critics thought he was done. But ever since his Augusta win, #Tigersback is a popular refrain.

As realtors we started planning for the US Open  months ago by creating innovative advertising for the print and digital media that would beguile and bewitch prospective buyers and invite them to purchase property while visiting the area.  During the tournament while the golf crowd heads for the courses, we’ll be manning our posts at the “Floor duty” desk or hosting numerous Open Houses at our listings hoping some of our visitors will stray from the event.  We hope to lure some of our golf enthusiasts to find the coveted prize – a home on the Monterey Peninsula.

We know that tournament goers will spend most of their time watching the play or playing golf themselves – and then, of course, time spent at the infamous 19th Hole.  In fact, keeping this in mind,  many companies are having parties and events including my real estate office, Carmel Realty Company, to entertain clients who have already purchased homes or who are considering it.  We hope that everyone will have such a good time here and at least pick up the newspapers and magazines touting our gorgeous homes and return at a  later time.

There is nothing more beautiful than Pebble Beach on a clear sunny day and that’s what we are blessed with this week except for a little morning fog.  If nothing else our visitors will take home delightful memories of blue skies, sunlit courses and crashing waves, after bearing witness to some great golf.  Will Tiger win?  That is yet to be determined. Play on!

“Make My Day” ~ AT&T Golf Tournament 2019 ~ Pebble Beach

AT&T Golf Tournament February 7-10 2019

Pebble Beach, CA

Welcome to the AT&T Golf Tournament 2019!

The AT&T Golf Tournament has always been dear to my heart.  It’s one of the events that made me fall in love with the Monterey Peninsula and inspired me to move here.

As  San Franciscans my husband and I were in awe of the Monterey Peninsula and we loved coming down to the tournament – usually meeting up with some of his golf buddies.  After walking the course and watching their favorite golfers in the morning my husband and his cohorts

Taken more recently – still walking the course!

would head out inspired and play Bayonet or one of their other favorite golf courses.  I would continue to be the consummate spectator

trying to catch a glimpse of Don Johnson, Kevin Costner, Jack Lemon, or Clint Eastwood (back when he still played in the tournament.)  OK, I didn’t just have golf on my mind!

Kevin Costner playing in the AT&T Golf Tournament

Well, let’s fast forward to 2019.  Speaking of Clint, there is something new at this year’s tournament, “Clint’s Saloon“! (See page 16)

Clint Eastwood in the Centennial Parade.

Situated on the 3rd Fairway a viewing venue has been created that offers a “Spaghetti Western” feel.  Swinging saloon doors, peanut shells on the floor, TV screens showing “A Fistful of Dollars” and “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” . . .  and everyone goes home with a Bobblehead of Clint.

Clint about to join the Centennial parade in Carmel. He walked right by me and said, “Excuse me”, I was kind of in his way to get onto the stage coach!

The  Carmel Pine Cone has reported that sales for the upgraded ticket to hang in Clint’s Saloon are selling like “cheap whiskey on a cattle drive”.  Giddy up, Rawhide! Tickets are $250-$350 and hey, it’s for charity.

I know I haven’t talked at all about the actual golfers that are going to play or that a little known golfer, Ted Potter, our 2018 winner will be defending his title (Beware of flip flops!).  Check out the Pine Cone for great coverage on that.  I’m looking forward to seeing my new favorite pro golfers like Phil and Justin and Jordan.  The celebrities aren’t quite what they used to be (personal opinion) but time changes.

2018 Champion, Ted  Potter

As a blogger, I’ve always been advised to keep it short so I’ll be back again with insights as to how the realtor community views the tournament – since that’s ME!

Stay tuned! And call me if you too (like me) would like to own “a piece of dirt” on the Monterey Peninsula!
