Car Week off to a roaring start! Carmel-by-the-Sea

Welcome to Concours on the Avenue!

Today is the day that hoards of people will descend into Carmel-by-the-Sea and walk up and down Ocean Avenue to google all of the pretty cars.  That is after they will walk a mile from the place they had to park – except for the early birds who get their by 8:00am like my husband and I usually do.  This year we’re going a bit later and will have a long walk – but hey, we need the exercise anyway.  Some of the cars  will take us back to our youth and make our eyes mist up like the 50’s Chevys and others will make our mouth drool like this lovely red Ferrari.  What is it about Ferrari’s?

And what is it about red cars?  My first car was red.  A red 850 Spider Fiat convertible.  I so loved that car.  The engine was about as powerful as a lawn mower, but I tooled around the hills of  San Francisco with the top down at the age of 22.  Life was good!  Porsches are nice too, but in a little different category.

At today’s car show, people watching is also great entertainment.  The owners are so proud of their cars and always available to talk about every detail with the story of their lives woven in.

There’s always some of the oldies mixed in too – always a crowd favorite!

I always get a “kick” our of rumble seats – I guess that was the first convertible.  Well, got to run – don’t want to miss this years offerings!
